Are You Really Free? | John 8:31-47
We live in a country where we value freedom, but living in a free country does not necessarily mean we are living free.
In John 8:31-47, Jesus confronts people who believed they were already free. He reveals that sin can become a master, lies can keep us in bondage, and simply claiming to know God is not the same as truly belonging to Him.
Jesus gives us the answer to real freedom: “You will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” Then He makes it even clearer: “If the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.”
But what is truth?
In this message, Pastor Justin looks at five important realities about truth. Truth is objective. Truth is universal. Truth is exclusive. Truth is eternal. And ultimately, truth is freeing.
Our culture tells us to follow our feelings, define our own truth, and believe that freedom means doing whatever we want. Jesus shows us something completely different. Real freedom is not the ability to obey every desire. Real freedom is having the power to say no to what once controlled us and yes to the life God has called us to live.
A lie can feel like freedom when it allows us to keep what we want, but only Jesus can break the chains of sin, shame, fear, confusion, and bondage.
The question is not simply whether you live in freedom.
The question is: Are you really free?
“If the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.” John 8:36
