Trusting What You Know About Him

Romans 8:28-39
The Christian life does not promise exemption from pain. Jesus himself said in John 16:33 that in this world you will have trouble. But he also said to take heart, because he has overcome the world. The storms will come. The outcomes will not always match your prayers. The silence will sometimes stretch longer than you think you can endure. But Romans 8 does not say God causes all things to be good. It says he works all things together for good. He is the one responsible for the harvest. You are responsible for the obedience. Keep planting. Keep trusting. The God who raised Lazarus has not changed.

Looking back over your life, where can you see God working something together for good that you could not see while you were in the middle of it? How does that history strengthen your trust today?

End this five-day devotional by writing a brief letter to God. Acknowledge what you do not understand, affirm what you do know about his character, and surrender the outcome of your current situation to him by name.
