Bringing Your Disappointment to Jesus

John 11:17-22
Martha did not pretend. She did not compose herself into a polished version of faith before approaching Jesus. She ran to him in her grief and told him exactly what she felt: Lord, if you had been here, this would not have happened. And Jesus did not correct her for saying it. He received her. There is a profound freedom in this moment. God is not threatened by your honest disappointment. He does not require you to clean up your grief before bringing it to him. He is the safest place to take what hurts. Run to him, not away from him.

Are you currently carrying a disappointment with God that you have not verbalized to him? What is holding you back from bringing it to him honestly in prayer?

Spend five minutes in prayer today speaking your disappointment plainly to God. Do not dress it up. Tell him what you expected and what you feel. Then sit in silence and let him respond.
