What Generosity Reveals | 2 Corinthians 8

Generosity reveals more than what we give. It reveals what has our heart, how our faith is growing, how deeply the gospel has shaped us, and whether our faith is actually becoming action.

When we hear the word generosity, we usually think about money. But in 2 Corinthians 8, Paul shows us that generosity reveals something much deeper.

Generosity makes the invisible visible.

Through the example of the churches in Macedonia, Paul shows us what happens when God’s grace truly changes a heart. These believers were facing trouble and extreme poverty, yet their abundant joy overflowed into rich generosity. Their circumstances were difficult, but their hearts were surrendered.

In this message from 2 Corinthians 8, we see that generosity reveals what has our heart, how our faith is growing, how the gospel has shaped us, how our faith becomes action, and whether we can be trusted.

Paul also points us beyond the example of Macedonia to the ultimate example of generosity, Jesus Christ. Though He was rich, for our sake He became poor so that through Him we could become spiritually rich. The greatest picture of generosity is not an offering. It is the cross.

The question is not simply, “How much do I give?” The deeper question is, “What does my generosity reveal about me?”
