Be Careful What Impresses You | 2 Corinthians 11
In 2 Corinthians 11, Paul warns us to be careful what impresses us. Discover how to recognize false teaching, develop biblical discernment, and measure what sounds right, looks right, and appears powerful against the truth of Jesus.
What impresses you?
We naturally notice people who are polished, confident, successful, powerful, or persuasive. But in 2 Corinthians 11, Paul gives the church a serious warning: something can be impressive and still be wrong.
The Corinthian church was being influenced by teachers who sounded convincing, looked spiritual, and projected strength. Paul challenges them to look beyond appearances and develop the discernment to recognize the difference between truth and almost truth.
In this message from our THIS IS THE BIBLE series, we discover why we cannot simply trust what sounds right, looks right, or appears powerful. False teaching can sound spiritual. Pride can look like confidence. Manipulation can look like leadership. Even Satan, Paul warns, can disguise himself as an angel of light.
So what should impress us?
Jesus.
Paul points us toward a completely different standard. Instead of being impressed by image, influence, success, or strength, we should look for truth, integrity, sacrifice, humility, godly character, and a life that looks like Jesus.
Sometimes what the world calls weakness is exactly where the power of God is most clearly seen.
Don’t just ask, “Is it impressive?”
Ask, “Does it look like Jesus?”
